Founded in 1974 by Rainier III of Monaco, since 2006 the Festival has been chaired by Princess Stéphanie of Monaco so that there is an appreciation of all circus arts.

Founded in 1974 by Rainier III of Monaco, the festival has been chaired by Princess Stéphanie of Monaco since 2006. For 10 days each year, the festival presents a selection of the best international acts that attract numerous spectators. In addition, the best circus performers are awarded special prizes by various companies, organizations, institutions and individuals. These are the “Golden Clown,” the “Silver Clown,” and the “Bronze Clown.” Of these awards, there is also a Junior version, to reward the young promises of the circus world. The awards are presented during a closing gala show attended by the Prince of Monaco and his family.
